Horses, Horses, Horses

Our focus is mainly on teaching your child about horseback riding and care of the horse.  We teach your child to love the horse and all the fun that goes along with English and Western riding.  Our program incorporates good horsemanship and team work, while the children help each other to understand the basics or riding all the way up to advanced horseback riding skills.  The campers ride in the riding arena daily (weather permitting) and learn the overall basics of riding or improve the riding skills they have already acquired. They even get to go on a trail ride through our 45 acre mini ranch. They ride past the pet cemetery and the rustic “postal” bunk house (it used to be an old post office)  and then back through the trails. Maybe they will see a deer or two or a jack rabbit. We divide the camp into small groups (average about 6-7) based on their age, skill level and who their friends are. You will be amazed at what the kids can learn about horses in a week, much less all summer. Hopefully you can come watch on Friday as they show off their talents.  The kids will learn parts of the horse, saddle, bridle and other equipment. We will teach them safety while riding and when around the animals. They will learn the different medical conditions and about leg wrapping techniques for exercising the horse or treating an injury. Campers will also learn mounted exercises to help the riders physical condition and different emergency procedures to take if needed.

Pool Time

The kids love jumping in our big in-ground pool to cool off after being at the barn and riding horses. The kids go with their group across the pasture up to the pool. They are escorted by our certified life guard and their counselor and splash around and play group games or they can just relax under the big oak trees surrounding the pool. The pool does have a shallow end with stairs (3’6) and the deep end with a ladder (9′).  We do not allow diving and we do not provide swimming lessons. Our pool is to cool off in on a hot summer day. Please let us know if your child is not a good swimmer. Children are welcome to bring a life jacket or floaties. The camp groups are supervised at all times and our charismatic counselors are a big part of the fun.

Lunch and Snacks

The campers and their counselor will take about a 30 min. break during the day as they eat their lunch and relax at the picnic tables talking about all the fun they have already had and about what will be next. We do not provide lunch but we do have packaged snacks and drinks the children can purchase ($ .25 – $3) or they can bring all their own snacks. Most kids do like to go to the snack room and budget out their money to see what they can purchase during the day.  We will also have HCF t-shirts and other souvenirs the kids can purchase from the little HCF store.

Arts and Crafts

ART is not our main focus but we do have a little fun with your child’s artistic side. They might paint a rock to take home or they can bring a t-shirt to paint (Thursday). We might have jewelry makers or crafty little ones, making window hangings (stained glass-plastic) or paint a cute wooden toy. Who knows what your child might create with their talent. It is just as much fun for us to see what they come up with as it is for them to create it.

The Mini’s

During our FARM day camp the kids will also have the opportunity to groom, lead, wash and just mess around with our super cute mini’s. We have tiny tiny horses, goats, donkeys and short legged dogs who can’t wait for camp. These guys are part of the family and they love camp time.Come and see – it is always exciting here at the farm.

Our Camps are family owned and operated and are very small and personalized. We do not have a schedule set in stone. Horseback riding and horse care are the main objective of our camps. We do include many other fun activities that might change from camp to camp. Weather of course can change a schedule drastically but we still always have lots of fun. Most of our activities are outdoors unless weather prohibits.
