CHILDRENS CAMPS 2008
Day Camps are an excellent way to enjoy spring and summer breaks. Spend the day in a beautiful, cool setting
surrounded by horses and your friends. Enjoy swimming, games, arts and crafts, horse care and more
with your daily adventure at HCF.
Just look at everything we do:
- Horse Activities:
Each day riders are on their horses for 1-2 hours. Every day includes
grooming and tacking up our horses, as well as feeding and cleaning.
Thursdays are trail-ride days, as well as Cross Country days for our
more advanced students.
- Swimming:
Our above ground pool is the best place for our campers to relax after
a long hot day of riding! On really hot days we even move it under
cover! We also have been known to visit local waterholes, and the
Blanco River to enjoy a nice dip.
- Games:
Our experienced counselors have a vast variety of educational and fun
games which we participate in, both on and off of our horses! Learning
leadership, communication skills, as well as making friends!
- Nature walks:
Our beautiful location makes for picturesque nature walk and trail ride
opportunities. We enjoy camp fires and picnics along our way, as well
as learning how to safely set up a campsite.
- Arts and crafts:
Our campers and councelors have alot of creativity and love spending
time doing arts & crafts! Thursdays are T-Shirt Days where students
are encouraged to bring a T-Shirt from home to decorate as a keepsake
from camp. We also do projects such as stained glass paintings,
jewelery making, and much more!
- Petting zoo:
If you have ever been to visit HCF you know that we are alive with
critters! Our family includes a dog, 2 barn cats, a handful of chickens
and roosters, donkeys, miniature ponies, goats, and one very confused
duck.
- Demonstrations:
Our counselors and trainers offer 2 demo rides a week for campers to
observe and learn about proper riding, and difficult techniques.
Things your camper will learn at camp:
- Horse Grooming
- Safe Handling of Horses
- Tacking and Untacking
- Bathing
- Wrapping/Fitting Boots
- Care of Tack and Boots
- Horse Colors/Breeds
- Parts of the Saddle/Bride
- Basic First Aid for Horses
The
campers will enjoy a variety of both horse related and not horse
related activities, to get the best of both worlds! No horse experience
is needed and we get tons of new riders every session! We have tons of
great reliable showmaster horses ready to tote around your beginner, or
teach your educated young rider! Weather? No problem! Along with the
bunk house, we have a heated classroom/lounge for the campers to make
use of if the weather gets wet! We watch educational (and non) DVDs,
along with watching ourselves ride! On weather days we fill our day
with pen, paper, and hands-on learning. We may do lessons in the barn
about clipping, play games, or decorate saddle pads in the lounge while
watching our rides from yesterday.
